Cambados Upgrades its Wastewater Facility, Doubling Treatment Power

Designed to treat an average daily flow of 12,000 m³ and serve a population of up to 40,000, the Tragove Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cambados now features an upgraded biological treatment system. The facility includes an anoxic chamber for nitrogen removal, chemical phosphorus precipitation, and ultraviolet disinfection before water is pumped to the submarine outfall.

The upgrade, carried out by Extraco on behalf of Augas de Galicia, has effectively doubled the plant’s treatment capacity. This was achieved by expanding the decanting systems and increasing recirculation flows throughout the facility.

In addition, the treatment equipment and systems were modernized to meet current wastewater treatment standards for the surrounding communities.

The work was co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
