The area connecting the historic center with the Ourense auditorium complex has been reclaimed for pedestrian use
The humanization and vertical-mobility project carried out around Plaza de As Mercedes and Calle Arturo Pérez Serantes—linking the historic center of Ourense with the municipal auditorium—has transformed a large, previously degraded space that had been dominated by parked and circulating vehicles. This area has now been reclaimed for public and pedestrian use.
Promoted by the Ourense City Council and executed by Extraco, the project included the installation of three mechanical elements: two escalators and a moving walkway. Additionally, the entire space was redesigned as a single, continuous platform adapted to the existing topography and slopes.
The intervention’s objective was to humanize the area by making the natural pedestrian route between these two key parts of the city more comfortable, accessible, and direct—resulting in clear improvements to overall mobility conditions.
