Another important contract signed with Portugal to restore a bridge in the region of Algarve

Extraco’s managing director, Javier Leandro Prada, signed a new and significant contract in Portugal some days ago, more in particular, in the region of Algarve, to restore and structurally strengthen the bridge of Dona María, in the town of Lagos.

The work is expected to start in September and be completed in a period of eight months. It will allow for the re-opening of the viaduct, which has been closed for months due to its high level of deterioration.

A large part of this action —65%— will be funded by community funds, whereas the remaining percentage will be financed by the Local Chamber of Lagos. It was its President, María Joaquina Matos, who highlighted the importance of this work while they were signing the contract, as it will be the solution to an important problem of accessibility.

2014 will be the fifth year of Extraco’s active presence in Portugal, where it commenced its activity with the work  “Valorizaçao do Cais Comercial do Porto da Figueira da Foz”. It has a permanent office in Alcochete, south of Lisbon, and its deep-rooted presence in the Portuguese country has also led to its participation in technical activities, such as a seminar on corrosion held in Figueira da Foz and two important meetings for Spanish and Portuguese Civil Engineers.

Besides the abovementioned commercial dock, the main works in which the company has participated in Portugal have been the restoration of structural elements belonging to the sanitation system of Aveiro’s estuary, bridge of Pedorido (crossing the river Arda), biological reactor of Valmaior’s  ETAR (Albergaria A Velha) or a drainage bridge on road ER 374, as well as the environmental and landscape improvement in Muralhas de Elvas; the project regarding the coastline of Barra’s beach or the work concerning the treatment of underground water pipelines and water intake at Lucefecit’s dam.
