Extraco supports several R&D initiatives within the “Retos 2015” program

Extraco building company supports several R&D&i projects undertaken by Galician universities within the “National Program for Research, Development and Innovation Aimed at the Challenges of Society, 2015”. This is an initiative developed as a part of the National Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovative Research 2013-2016, designed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance to provide Spanish research centers with public funds, thus fostering the collaboration between companies and institutions through R&D&i projects.

In particular, Extraco has written a letter showing its support and interest to collaborate in two different proposals as an observer and promoter. One of them includes several studies about sustainability and energetic evaluation in the construction field, led by the Engineering and Project Management Group of the Escola Politécnica Superior on the Ferrol campus (University of A Coruña). The other proposal is an initiative analyzing different biosurfactant substances, coordinated by the Chemical Engineering Department at the Universidade de Vigo.

University internships

Similarly, and still in the university field, Extraco has several ongoing collaboration agreements allowing students to carry out internships at the company during the summer months. A few days ago, some students from the Degree in Environment taught by the Universidade de Vigo and the Degree in Civil Engineering taught by the Universidade da Coruña, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Universidad Alfonso X “El Sabio”, completed this training period.

Among the tasks developed, the support and collaborations with the construction site managers and the R&D and Environmental Departments must be highlighted. The students discovered the functioning of different facilities by the company, such as the asphalt agglomerate manufacturing plant in Allariz, the waste water treatment station in Arcade (Soutomaior, Pontevedra), or the control room for the Ourense-Celanova Highway.
