Extraco presents the developments of the project ‘Biovalvo’ at the ACHE International Conference on Structures

Extraco made public at the seventh edition of the ACHE (Scientific and Technical Association for Structural Concrete) International Conference on Structures the developments of the R&D&i project ‘Biovalvo’, in which the company has been participating for the last few years, with the School of Civil Engineers of the University of A Coruña (UDC). Extraco conducted a presentation called ‘Foundations of an experimental building with mass concrete and mussel shell aggregates’.

The event, organised by ACHE, was held in A Coruña last June, and experts from different countries participated presenting the latest developments in areas such as research into new construction materials, the execution of civil engineering and construction works, or the management and maintenance of structures, among others.

Extraco’s R&D Department delivered the presentation together with the representatives of the UDC and focused on the innovative materials employed in the design of an experimental bio-construction model resulting from the ‘Biovalvo’ project, partly financed by the CDTI in the competitive call for Innterconecta R&D projects. The aim of this initiative was to research the possible applications of the various by-products deriving from the waste of mussel shells to develop innovative construction materials.

This presentation, along with the rest of communications presented in the conference, has been included in the 68th volume “Special Conference” of the prestigious journal “Hormigón y Acero”, published on a quarterly basis by ACHE.
