The renovation of the medieval bridge of Furelos at the International Congress on Public Works Heritage

Last September, the project for the recovery and enhancement of the surroundings of the medieval bridge of Furelos (Melide), on the French Way to Santiago de Compostela, managed to make its way into the 1st International Congress on Public Works Heritage and Civil Engineering, which took place in different venues in Cuenca, Toledo and Madrid.

The works, promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and executed by Extraco in 2022, involved different actions on the roadway and parapets, as well as general maintenance works in the area crossed by the Way. The construction of a viewpoint over the river, close to  the bridge, was also undertaken to enhance its scenic interest. The entire intervention was carried out with the utmost respect for the historical and heritage value of the bridge.

The works conducted by Extraco was one of the papers selected to be presented at the congress, which brought together 450 attendees from seven countries. The event was organized by the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers.
