Extraco, award winner at the “9th Awards to the best practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility, 2021”, by Renault Group Fundación España

EXTRACO’s Project “ALFILLER: Valorization of asphalt plant recovery filler for the development of cement-based eco-products”, submitted in the category SMEs/entrepreneurs, has been awarded a prize by Renault Group Fundación España and the Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad at the “9th Awards to the best practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility”. It is a R&D&I project to make use of the refused filler from the manufacturing of asphalt mixtures, valorizing the waste from EXTRACO’s plants into novel dosages of building materials. The project is in line with the introduction of sustainability and circularity in the transport infrastructure building sector, creating new types of self-compacting mortar and concrete, with the support of Grupo de Construcción (gCONS) the University of A Coruña (UDC) and the companies Prefhorvisa, Galaicontrol and Renga Enerxía. ALFILLER was developed between 2018 and 2021 and was co-funded by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) of the Xunta de Galicia in the competitive call for R&D&I projects “Conectapeme 2018” (Ref. IN852A 2018/39).

The general manager of EXTRACO, Mr. Francisco Rodríguez, received the award from Ms. Elena Galante, head of the Mobility Observatory of the Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad, at the ceremony held on 4 February at the headquarters of Renault Group in Madrid, also attended by Mr. Carlos Fraile, director of Fundación Renault; Mr. Raül Blanco, Secretary General of Industry and Small and Medium Businesses (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Government of Spain), and Ms. Teresa Perales, Olympic swimmer and Awardee of the Princess of Asturias Sports Award 2021, godmother of the Foundation.

With these awards, Fundación Renault Group España aims at valorizing the most highlighting initiatives developed by big companies, SMEs/entrepreneurs and Public Administrations in order to promote and develop sustainable mobility in Spain, in line with the Foundation’s mission of supporting actions for social progress, transmitting the commitment of this automobile company in the fields of Inclusion, the Environment and Road Safety.

In addition to EXTRACO, the following entities were awarded prizes: in the Public Administration category, the Municipal Society of Parking Lots of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (SAGULPA) received an award for its project “Alternative and Sustainable Mobility Solutions in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”, which offers a pioneering service (in Spain) of smart public bicycles to be used in the city over a network of cycling lanes. In the Big Company category, Iberdrola received an award for its “Sustainable Mobility Plan”, which introduces a novel integrated approach of the company’s mobility, with policies and actions involving employees, business activity, customers and suppliers. The jury also awarded a second prize to the City Council of Coslada, for its project “To School by Bike”, which promotes the use of this means of transport among the elementary school students who live in the Puerto neighborhood, with the support of the local police of this municipality in Madrid.
