EXTRACO celebrated the 44th anniversary of the Constitution by sponsoring, for the second year in a row, the “Spanish Constitution School Contest” in Ourense

On the 6th of December, the Municipal Auditorium hosted the 38th edition of the “Spanish Constitution School Contest”, organized by the Government Sub-delegation in Ourense. This contest is held annually, and its goal is to promote the democratic principles set forth in the Spanish Constitution of 1978 among the schools in the area.  The Constitution is the fundamental law of the Spanish legal system, governing all citizens and public authorities.

During this festive ceremony, prices were handed out to 40 students from the area who submitted drawings, photos, and school projects focusing on the fundamental rights and obligations included in Title I of the Spanish Constitution. 20 prizes (a copy of the Constitution) were awarded to the Pre-School, Primary and Special Education Category, and 20 more were awarded to the Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training Category. The prize in this last instance was a trip to Madrid to visit the Senate and Congress.

On top of the school prizes, some people and organizations were recognized for their service work in Ourense throughout the year. As well as the Provincial Assembly of the Red Cross (for the comprehensive care and housing they provided to Ukrainian refugees), the following institutions were also honored: in the State Bodies and Security Forces category, the mountain rescue and intervention team of the Spanish military police (“GREIM”) with headquarters in Trives; the investigating team of the Nature Protection Service (Seprona); and the Judicial Police of the Spanish military police. The last two were decorated for their joint effort investigating the fires that ravaged the region last summer.

Mr. Juan Carlos Blázquez Hernández, Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Ourense (and ready to retire after more than 42 years of service) received the collective acknowledgement to police officers for tirelessly working to uphold democratic coexistence.

The mayor of Ourense, Mr. Gonzalo Pérez Jácome; the president of the Provincial Council, Mr. José Manuel Baltar; the delegate of the Regional Government, Mr. Gabriel Alén, and the assistant deputy of the National Government, Mr. Emilio González Afonso, as well as other provincial authorities and representatives of sponsoring companies (amongst them, EXTRACO) handed out the prices with which to celebrate the 44th anniversary of our Constitution.
