The three R&D Extraco projects selected in the ConectaPeme 2018 edition, \u201cAlfiller<\/strong>\u201d, \u201cTopacio<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>and \u201c<\/em>Geo4Rad\u00f3n<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, are progressing according to plan and nearing the end of their second year<\/p>\n

Regarding the first project, \u201cAlfiller: Recovery of filler material from asphalt plants for developing cement-based eco-products\u201d<\/strong> (File no. IN852A 2018\/39), <\/strong>the physical, mechanical and chemical characterization of the waste filler recovered from Extraco\u2019s bituminous material manufacturing plant has been completed. The proportions of masonry and lining mortar and grout have also been identified. Concurrently, the research team based in Grupo de Construcci\u00f3n (gCONS) <\/strong>of ETS Ingenieros de Caminos de la Universidade da Coru\u00f1a <\/strong>(UDC) and directed by professors Bel\u00e9n Gonz\u00e1lez Fonteboa <\/strong>and Fernando Mart\u00ednez Abella <\/strong>(senior researchers), is analyzing the life cycle and carbon footprint of the newly designed products.<\/p>\n

The project \u201cTopacio: Optimization Technologies for the management of infrastructures used to prevent forest fires\u201d <\/strong>(File no. IN852A 2018\/37) has improved the accuracy of the systems used to gather data on site, with drones and LiDAR technologies, in different real-life scenarios such as the Ourense-Celanova Highway (AG-31) and the Baixa Limia \u2013 Serra do Xur\u00e9s nature park. Complementary meteorological stations have been placed in order to determine the fire rate algorithms in the areas under study, and new analysis and data systems are being developed in order to process the information gathered, as well as new software architectures for more effective processing, including a \u201ccitizen sensing\u201d app. For this project\u2019s development, Extraco<\/strong> is working in partnership with the Grupo de Geotecnolog\u00edas Aplicadas (GEOTECH)<\/strong> of Universidade de Vigo <\/strong>(UVIgo) and Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Forestal de Louriz\u00e1n<\/strong>, part of the Galician food quality agency, Axencia Galega da Calidade Alimentaria (AGACAL)-Xunta de Galicia, coordinated by professor Higinio Gonz\u00e1lez Jorge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lastly, very significant advances have been made in the project \u201cGeo4Rad\u00f3n: Projection and enhancement of geothermal heating systems and analysis of the effect of drilling in the diffusion of radon gas \u201d<\/strong>(File no. IN852A 2018\/38), such as the execution and projection of plants for harvesting geothermal energy to be built in Extraco\u2019s headquarters in Ourense, under the supervision of professor Jos\u00e9 Fern\u00e1ndez Seara<\/strong>, from the Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engines and Machinery and Fluids Group <\/strong>of Universidade de Vigo <\/strong>(UVigo).<\/p>\n

These three projects are financed by the Galician innovation agency, Axencia Galega de Innovaci\u00f3n (GAIN) \u2013 Conseller\u00eda de Econom\u00eda, Emprego e Industria <\/strong>of the regional government of Galicia<\/strong>, supported by the European Regional Development Fund <\/strong>(ERDF).<\/p>\n
